Adele’s Grammy crasher reveals why he did it

Ukrainian TV journalist and celebrity prankster Vitalii Sediuk made headlines when he tried to accept the best pop solo performance award on Adele’s behalf at the 55th Grammy Awards on Sunday.

After the stunt, Grammy security grabbed him and held him until the LAPD whisked him to jail for a night. So why did he do it?

“The idea to go on the stage came up at the last second. To be honest, Adele is my favorite singer,” Sediuk told the Hollywood Reporter. “So when I heard her name, I came up with this idea to go up on the stage and say what I said. … I pretended this was an award for me, and then I said, ‘Thank you, Adele. You’re my inspiration.’”

(By the way, Sediuk was the same guy who received a “slap” after giving Will Smith a smooch on the press line in Moscow)
