The curse of the celebrity vow renewal
Celebrities, if you want to stay married, don’t renew your vows. Star-watchers believe the telltale sign of trouble in paradise between Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon was their low-key wedding anniversary in April.
The couple — who Page Six reported Wednesday were “living apart” and headed for a split — have previously held elaborate vow renewal ceremonies on their anniversary.
Last year, the couple staged an excruciating six-figure fairy-tale wedding at Disneyland in California for 250 guests, where Cannon and Carey dressed as a prince and princess, and rode in a horse-drawn Cinderella-style carriage.
But a year later, on April 30, the couple celebrated their anniversary privately and with a simple Instagram photo of them and their twin 3-year-olds, Monroe and Moroccan Scott. Now, we’re told, Cannon is living in hotels and the couple is separating.
Renewing vows appears to be a curse on many celebrity marriages.
There are countless examples of couples who did it, only to split soon after.
