Demi Lovato: Wilmer Valderrama saved me from rehab
Demi Lovato’s struggle with bulimia is ongoing, but she credits her boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama with helping her avoid returning to rehab.
“It’s been difficult,” the 22-year-old pop star recently told Fitness magazine. “I almost went back to rehab for my eating disorder last summer.”
Lovato, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, says she was both obsessing over food and terrified of it. “Wilmer [Valderrama] noticed and called me out on it, which was a relief.”
She says it was a turning point and she’s made lifestyle adjustments. “I was done being afraid of food and so tired of overeating and not knowing why I did it,” she explained. “Now I’m on a structured meal plan.”
Now, Lovato eats four small meals and two snacks a day. “It’s teaching me portion control,” she said, adding that her favorite meal is a turkey patty in a lettuce wrap with vegan cheese, ketchup, tomato, and a side of sweet potatoes.
When in need of inspiration, she looks to other female celebrities who embrace their curvy bodies. “Say what you will about the Kardashians, but they’ve really helped make curvy bodies beautiful again,” she said, praising the reality TV family. “It’s so nice to look around and see women with hips and a butt, like Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Lopez.”
