Kanye West’s stage-crashing joke flops at Grammys

Kanye almost out-Kanye’d himself.

Following the biggest upset of Sunday night’s Grammy Awards — Beck winning album of the year over presumed frontrunners Sam Smith and Beyoncé — Kanye West jokingly ran up on stage to protest.

As Beck started to accept the award from Prince, who was presenting, West, 37, jumped to the stage in a move mimicking his notorious interruption of Taylor Swift‘s 2009 MTV VMAs acceptance speech, declaring, “I’m a let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best music videos of all time!”

He apparently had a similar sentiment regarding Beyoncé’s latest self-titled album. The joke, however, did not seem to go over particularly well, leaving Beck very confused onstage.

Meanwhile, Jay Z appeared initially mortified at West’s prank. As for Beyoncé, she appeared to be mouthing, “Not again!”

After the stunt, West headed toward Swift’s seat to explain his joke. The pair talked for a few minutes, hugged and high-fived.
