REVIVAL 10.9

A post shared by Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) on

Selena Gomez is tired of all the body shaming.

The actress-turned-pop star knows that whatever she does — whether it be walking the red carpet or hitting the beach with friends — her appearance, especially her weight, will be scrutinized by both fans and detractors alike.

“This was the first year I ever dealt with anyone talking about my body,” the 23-year-old recently told Us Weekly. “I’d land at the airport and people would yell out, ‘You’re fat!’ It was awful.”

It got so bad that Gomez needed to get professional help, which has benefited her greatly. It’s made her proud of what she looks like and is why she posed nude for the cover of her new album, “Revival.”

“I’ve been working in therapy,” she told the magazine. “Even if I did gain weight, I’m fine. That’s what the picture represents.”

This newfound confidence can be seen on Gomez’s Instagram account. The last bathing suit photo she posted featured a caption aimed at critical observers: “I love being happy with me yall.”

It’s not just the cover where this boost in self-esteem is apparent, it’s clear from the album’s songs as well.

“Each year, I’m becoming more aware of who I am. I have more self-awareness,” she said. “I feel confident and free. I’m not going to hide in my room and be depressed.”

“Revival,” which features the hit single “Good for You,” goes on sale this Friday.
