Selena Gomez underwent chemotherapy for lupus
Selena Gomez, who was diagnosed with lupus earlier this year, has revealed she’s undergone chemotherapy to treat the autoimmune disease.
“That’s what my break was really about,” Gomez told Billboard about stepping away from the spotlight for several months. “I could’ve had a stroke.”
While in treatment, there was speculation that the 23-year-old was actually battling an addiction.
“I wanted to so badly say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re a——s.’ I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again,” the “Good for You” singer said.
Gomez was also body shamed for having a fuller figure. Five months ago, she appeared in a skimpy bathing suit and the comments were anything but kind.
“I’ve been working in therapy,” she told Us Weekly. “Even if I did gain weight, I’m fine.”
