Lamar Odom’s kidneys are failing
Lamar Odom has been discharged from a Las Vegas hospital and flown to Los Angeles for specialized care — but his kidneys are failing and he may need a transplant, according to a report.
The former hoops star was accompanied on the trip by his estranged wife, Khloé Kardashian, who plans to be at his side during rehab after his infamous booze-and-hooker binge, TMZ reports.
Odom will undergo six hours of dialysis a day, but may well need a transplant eventually, the site reported.
“His kidneys are shot,” a source told TMZ.
Odom was taken Monday night to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where doctors will also perform brain tests to determine the extent of damage from strokes he suffered, the site reported.
“Khloé and several nurses are with him. Lamar still can’t walk but has left the hospital in a bed,” a source told People.
“He’s responsive, but there are so many things that could go wrong right now, and the doctors have still been guarded,” a source told the magazine. “Khloé has been praying a lot, both to herself and out loud to Lamar. She wants him to know that she’s still on his side, and that everyone is praying for him.”
Meanwhile, Kardashian has put her relationship with NBA star James Harden on hold, the website reports.
Odom was seen passed out on a bed on Oct. 12 in photos snapped by a hooker at the Love Ranch brothel in Crystal, Nevada.
In one photo, he is seen sprawled across the bed in the VIP sex suite. In another, he is slumped over, holding a bottle of water. The photos were taken some 18 hours before his near-fatal overdose.
On Monday, Odom told Kardashian, “I love you,” his former University of Rhode Island coach Jim Harrick told CNN.
The 35-year-old two-time NBA champ had been hospitalized at the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas since Oct. 13, when he was found unconscious at the Love Ranch.
He’d arrived at the brothel on Oct. 10 and stayed in a luxury suite while partying with house talent.
Odom got married to Kardashian back in 2009. They’ve since signed divorce papers, but the split was never finalized, so she still has control of his key medical decisions.
