Why Mariah Carey’s manager is more like a ‘dictator’
Mariah Carey insiders tell Page Six that the singer is being controlled by her “Russian dictator” manager Stella Bulochnikov and they’re concerned she’s ruining Carey’s brand.
“Stella is the furthest thing from a manager. She’s a TV producer. She’s practically moved in with Mariah and now she has so much stuff on her that she can get her to do anything. She’s pulling the strings, and Mariah does whatever she says,” said a source.
Carey fired several longtime staffers when she hired Bulochnikov a year ago, and the duo have been inseparable ever since.
Bulochnikov masterminded a reality show for Carey on the E! network, an idea the singer would have scoffed at before Bulochnikov was in her camp.
The show will reportedly chronicle Carey’s life with her crew in Vegas, and some in the singer’s inner circle think it’s a bad idea.
“Stella is the one who really wants to be the reality star. She even filmed a pilot for herself last year. This will likely be more of a TV launching vehicle for her. It’s going to be like the Stella show, which is what she’s always wanted. She is definitely very much out for herself, and this is a golden opportunity for her because she wants to be famous. She wants to be the one in the magazines,” says a source who has worked with Bulochnikov.
A rep for Carey did not comment.
Bulochnikov called us an “idiot” and told us to “f - - k off and lose my number” after Page Six ran a story about Carey’s team not being fully behind the reality show. She did not return our calls for this story.
