Kanye purposely made fashionistas wait hours for his show
Performance artist Vanessa Beecroft — Kanye West’s collaborator on his disastrous Yeezy Season 4 fashion show — said models did not pass out because of the heat and lack of water, as had been claimed by fashion editors who had looked on in horror, but because of “emotional stress.” And she said that the hours-long delay was all part of West’s plan.
The fashion disaster, held Wednesday on Roosevelt Island, started nearly two hours late, sending fashionista showgoers into a tizzy, but Beecroft told Page Six, “Everyone was in a state of meditation … The long wait before, I believe it was planned because [West] wanted the audience to get into this state of having to observe and having to stay.”
Appearing Thursday at the House of Peroni Fashion Week pop-up, Beecroft also addressed concern for the models — of whom one editor tweeted, “Model passed out in the heat is given water by man in the audience but no one on the #YeezySeason4 team helps” — saying, “That’s a production issue not related to me … I’m not sure why some people fainted yesterday, but in my case, when it has happened in my performances, it was the level of emotional stress … It wasn’t physical. There was food and water. The situation is so intense and people are looking at you and you are standing.”
“Yesterday, I don’t know if it was because they were overwhelmed,” she added. “I’m not sure … I was bothered yesterday in a sense that I’m sorry for what’s happening, but at the same time, I wouldn’t know how to prevent it if it was emotional.”
While the show was widely panned, Beecroft told us, “I learned recently that press is really cruel and not representative of the actual truth.”
Meanwhile, West’s timekeeping didn’t improve throughout the day. The afterparty started three hours late, leaving thousands waiting, and its live performance got off to a bumpy start when fans rushed onto the stage and security aggressively pushed them off. But rapper West redeemed himself with showstopping performances accompanied by Teyana Taylor, Pusha T and Pharrell.
