‘Wild ambition’ brings down glossy power couple’s marriage
New York power couple Alexander Gilkes and Misha Nonoo have split after 13 years together, Page Six has exclusively learned.
Dashing British Paddle8 co-founder Gilkes and Bahrain-born and British-bred designer Nonoo split earlier this year after four years of marriage.
The young couple have been the toast of the Manhattan scene, thanks to their groomed good looks and stunning social connections. Gilkes is pals with Prince William and Dutchess Kate, and attended their wedding, and is also close to Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton. The art auctioneer recently employed Britain’s Princess Eugenie at his company. He has also appeared on Vanity Fair’s best-dressed list.
Emerging fashion darling Nonoo, a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist, has dressed the likes of Middleton, Cate Blanchett and Eve Hewson, who’s the daughter of U2 frontman Bono.
But the glossy couple — who share a Greenwich Village home, where they’ve thrown countless parties for the art and fashion sets — have not been photographed together since earlier this year. Gilkes was spotted without willowy blonde Nonoo this summer in the south of France.
A source told us of their split, “They both travel a lot. They are both wildly ambitious, but their relationship became a casualty of their ambition.” A second source confirms the pair has split but said things are “amicable.”
Nonoo told the New York Times of how she met Gilkes: “I thought he was gay,” she said. “He was so handsome and well-dressed.”
Lana Del Rey played at their grand 2012 wedding, which took place at the 16th-century Forte di Sant’Andrea in Venice, Italy, and ended with a garden party on the roof of Peggy Guggenheim’s museum. Guests at the three-day nuptials — described by W as “equal parts James Bond, Great Gatsby and English-schoolboy high jinks” — included James Middleton (Kate and Pippa’s brother), Matthew Mellon, and Eugenie and her sister, Princess Beatrice.
A rep said, “Misha and Alex do not wish to comment.”
