Kanye pulls a Kanye with rant-filled concert cut short
Kanye West lost it on a California stage this weekend, going off on Hillary Clinton, Jay-Z, Beyonce and Mark Zuckerberg before suddenly calling it quits after a measly 30-minute performance and leaving behind thousands of fuming fans.
The temperamental performer spent most of his brief time on stage in a nonsensical rant and did just a couple of songs at the brand-new Golden 1 Center in Sacramento before skipping out late Saturday night.
“Press, get ready to write your passive aggressive, LeBron James racist comments … because the show is over!” West told his stunned fans.
He then left the arena with his pockets full of the money from ticket-buyers.
“I spent $250,” Sacramento resident Christian Krebs told the Sacramento Bee. “I might be a fan of his music, but I’m not a fan of his character.”
By Sunday afternoon, Ticketmaster had already agreed to shell out refunds to the more than 13,000 fans who had packed the new home of the Sacramento Kings basketball team, arena sources said.
Several members of the Sacramento Kings basketball team were there and said they were bewildered by what happened.
Kings forward Anthony Tolliver tweeted: “This dude Kanye just stole money from 22k fans in 25 mins! Craziest thing ive ever seen in entertainment. 2 songs…rant…walk out smh.”
It’s been a rough week for Yeezy, who was mercilessly booed two days earlier in San Jose when he admitted that he didn’t vote in the presidential election — but if he had, he would have chosen Donald Trump.
West’s show on Saturday was listed for an 9 p.m. start. He took the stage at 10:30 p.m. and performed “Famous” and “Good Morning.”
But after that, he launched into his rants, according to Yahoo! News:
West also took on Facebook’s Zuckerberg, ranting, “I ain’t here to massage you with the fake truth, telling you that Hillary going to win over and over and over. Then you wake up and you still can’t believe it. You know why? Because you was lied to by Google. You was lied to by Mark Zuckerberg.”
He said Jay-Z isn’t returned his calls or treating him like a man: “Jay Z, call me, bro. You still ain’t call me. Jay Z, call me. Hey, bro, Jay Z, I know you’ve got killers. Please don’t send them at my head. Just call me. Talk to me like a man.”
WARNING: Graphic language
The rapper said Clinton represents “old,” past, failed ideas: “If you keep following old models, your ass is going to get Hillary Clinton’d.”
At the end of his rant, Yeezy compared himself to Richard Pryor and said he had a vision for change, “I got the vision bro.”
He said: “There’s a Richard Pryor interview that you can watch about people coming into power and not changing anything, just becoming a part of the power. That’s happening with musicians because they’re scared. I’m not scared. I’m here to change things. I am here to change things. Things won’t change until people admit their own falsehoods. I am here to change things. I got the vision, bro. That is what I’ve been blessed with. My vision. I’m not always going to say things the perfect way. I’m going to say it how I feel. Right now, press, get ready to write your passive-aggresive, LeBron James, racist comments. Season four racist comments. Get ready to have a field day, press. Get ready. Get ready. Because the show’s over.”
Despite the disgust West said he felt late Saturday night, it appeared he had the time to poke his head out the back seat of his car and pose for a picture with a fan.
“He was so nice,” said surprised twitter user PatrickSTAR489.
He fan tweeted with his video footage: “When Kanye West ends the show after 3 songs in Sacramento and allows me to take a selfie in the middle of the intersection w/him.”
