James Packer could make Israel his home thanks to Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey may have inadvertently helped her former fiancé, Australian billionaire James Packer, win permanent residency in Israel and big tax breaks.

Packer isn’t Jewish and doesn’t live in Israel, but his lawyers reportedly have inquired about permanent residency, which could result in substantial tax savings.

The authoritative Haaretz newspaper reports Packer has been wining and dining and hosting vacation trips abroad for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s son Yair Netanyahu.

When Carey performed in Israel in 2015, Packer bought a large block of tickets and gave 10 to the prime minister’s wife, Sara, and another seven to Yossi Cohen, who is now director of the Mossad.

A spokesman for the prime minister told Haaretz that Packer is a close friend of the family and of Yair himself, who has the right to be hosted by friends.
