Why Lamar Odom’s rehab timing couldn’t be better
Lamar Odom checking himself into rehab just before the holidays is a good move, says a life coach who helped Odom earlier this year.
“I think that it’s the best decision that he could make — because the pressure is there,” explained life coach John “Doc” Fuller, who aided Odom’s family in orchestrating an intervention back in July. “Just think about it. How many people are going to be drinking and using drugs during Christmas? How many people are going to drink during New Year’s?”
Odom, 37, began seeking treatment at a San Diego facility five days ago, reports TMZ. The ex-NBA star will be there for an undisclosed amount of time.
His decision to get help comes more than a year after he was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel and months after he was escorted off a New York-bound plane for vomiting on himself.
“Any time you can make a major decision around the holiday, it just shows maturity, it shows some amount of self-control, accountability and the love and respect that you have for those who are willing to support you,” Fuller added.
Although Fuller was unaware of Odom’s holiday plans with his kids, it looks as if 2017 will strengthen his family ties.
“Lamar is trying very, very hard to be a father,” Fuller said, noting there has been contact between Odom and his kids. “He’s doing his best to not repeat the mistakes that he’s made in the past. His children have been willing to trust him through the process. Over a period of time, that relationship is going to get stronger and stronger.”
