Casey Affleck addresses sexual harassment allegations

Casey Affleck has addressed the sexual harassment allegations that plagued his Oscar campaign.

In his first post-Oscars remarks, Affleck, 41, told the Boston Globe that no parties involved in the cases are allowed to speak on the matter, but noted, “I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else.”

“There’s really nothing I can do about it,” the actor added. “Other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.”

Affleck was accused of making “unwanted sexual advances” towards producer Amanda White during the filming of 2010’s “I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix.”

In her $2 million lawsuit, White alleged that Affleck used her bedroom to have sex with other women, sent her “abusive” text messages when she refused to share a hotel room with him and ordered a crew member to expose himself to her against her will.

“I’m Still Here” cinematographer Magdalena Gorka also sued Affleck for $2.25 million, accusing him of coming into her bed and touching her without her consent while she was asleep, as well as of threatening to withhold her payment and credit on the film after she quit.

Affleck vehemently denied the allegations and threatened countersuits against both women, but eventually agreed to mediation and settled both cases out of court for undisclosed sums.

Affleck took home the Best Actor Oscar on Sunday for his role in “Manchester by the Sea.”
