Mariah Carey doesn’t know where James Packer is

Mariah Carey has a message for Israeli media: “Why you so obsessed with me?”
The songbird arrived in Tel Aviv on Monday to promote a skincare line when she was bombarded with questions from local television reporters about her ex James Packer and his alleged ties to a corruption investigation into Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israeli police reportedly have been seeking Packer, 49, since March for questioning in connection with an ongoing investigation regarding alleged illegal gift giving, the Sydney Morning Herald reports. While Packer himself has not been accused of any wrongdoing, Israeli elected officials are forbidden to receive gifts. Netanyahu has maintained that gifts from the billionaire businessman — including free tickets to Carey’s shows and luxury vacation accommodations for the prime minister’s family — were merely personal gifts, not a sign of corruption.
When asked if she heard about the Netanyahu family getting in trouble after her last visit to Israel, Carey, 47, replied, “I don’t really pay attention to politics, darling.”
When the reporter claimed that the family illegally obtained free tickets to a recent performance, the “Infinity” singer chuckled.
“Oh, now they want to blame? Someone wants to blame me for something now? What did I do? I didn’t do anything,” she said. “I don’t know about that. I concentrate on the singing and the show and all that kind of stuff.”
The reporter replied that there was a “big issue in Israel” because of Carey and her ex, the elusive chanteuse said, “Oh really? That sucks … I just mean, like, honestly, I feel bad if that happened to anybody. I don’t want anybody to have bad issues for themselves. I’m just trying to do me! That’s all I can do, is be responsible for my own self.”
In a separate interview, when asked about a dinner she attended with Packer and Netanyahu, Carey grew a bit more dismissive.
“I was eating the food. They had some food there that was pretty good, I don’t know … I was just there because I was invited to a dinner … There was conversation, food, dinner.”
The somewhat combative interviewer asked Carey where Packer was, and she clearly had had enough.
“Please, darling, please! I don’t [know] where the motherf—ker is. How am I supposed to know? I don’t know, for real … I don’t know, he’s somewhere doing something, whatever. I have no idea. I really have no idea about the political stuff that goes on. I don’t pay attention to it.”
Packer and Carey had an acrimonious split in October. She’s currently linked to backup dancer Bryan Tanaka, with whom she’s had an on-again-off-again romance since November.
A rep for Carey declined to comment on the controversy.
