Prince Harry, Meghan Markle celebrate birthday in Africa

Britain’s Prince Harry and American gal pal Meghan Markle are celebrating the actress’s 36th birthday in Africa — a continent that has already proven fertile ground for royal proposals.
Speculation that Harry, 32, might pop a particular question was rampant as the couple landed in southern Africa on Saturday for a safari getaway.
Harry’s big brother, Prince William, had proposed to Princess Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, during their stay in a log cabin in a Kenyan wildlife refuge back in 2010.
Harry and Meg landed in Africa on her birthday.
The two wore matching sunglasses and gray baseball caps, and the “Suits” actress carried two hats — a red fedora and a wide-brimmed straw number — as they walked on the tarmac.
Markle carried what appeared to be a present — a framed picture obscured in bubble wrap.
Both were beaming, with Meghan giving her Prince Charming a smooch as they left the plane.
“Will all eyes be on one of Meghan’s fingers for the return trip?” The Sun newspaper asked in its coverage of the happy couple’s arrival.
Harry has been a frequent visitor to Africa.
He has worked to protect endangered wildlife, most recently in June, when he helped conservationists with a program that relocates elephants.
The happy couple recently passed the one-year mark in their relationship.
They’d been introduced by mutual friends last summer at the London branch of the members-only Soho House hotels.
ABC News notes that Markle recently shut down her lifestyle blog, The Tig, and ended her partnership with a Canadian clothing chain — two possible indications that she might have been clearing the decks on her current life to join the guardedly private royal family.
