Attorneys say Macklowe’s using Park Ave. pad as divorce ‘weapon’
Billionaire Harry Macklowe’s divorce case against wife Linda has been delayed for a few weeks because of the judge’s schedule, but they were back in Manhattan civil court Monday fighting over more assets — adjoining apartments at 432 Park Ave.
They had each contracted to buy half of the 78th floor of Harry’s skyscraper in 2013, before he left his wife for French lover Patricia Landeau.
In court, Linda’s lawyer Adam Leitman Bailey accused the real-estate titan of “dirty tricks” when he annexed a third of her unit to increase the size of the pad he plans to share with Landeau.
But attorneys for the skyscraper, who are partners with Harry, say Linda is using the lawsuit over 432 Park Ave. “as a kind of a weapon” in the divorce.
Harry’s plans to take over part of his estranged wife’s apartment are just that, “plans,” said Ronald Greenberg, lawyer for the LLC that owns 432 Park Ave. “If she wants to close, those plans are in the garbage,” he said.
But, he is only willing to extend her closing date a month.
Linda was due to close Monday on the $14 million pad. But Bailey said, “Now would be a horrible time for my client to get a closing order because she’s in the middle of a divorce proceeding. We truthfully want to close when the divorce proceeding is over.”
