Lisa Bloom says advising Weinstein ‘was a mistake’

Lisa Bloom says advising Weinstein ‘was a mistake’

Lisa Bloom realizes where her efforts to help disgraced movie exec Harvey Weinstein went wrong.

“All I can say is, from my perspective, I thought, ‘Here is my chance to get to the root of the problem from the inside,” she explained to Buzzfeed News. “Here is my chance to be in the inside and to get a guy to handle this thing in a different way, I thought that would be a positive thing, but clearly it did not go over at all.”

Bloom, who has long worked as a legal advocate for women, said she understands the contradiction of advising Weinstein despite what she says were good intentions.

“I can see that my just being associated with this was a mistake,” she said, and added later, “I didn’t think that would be controversial.”

Bloom resigned from Weinstein’s legal team last week as accusations of sexual assault and harassment mounted against him.

“I have resigned as an advisor to Harvey Weinstein. My understanding is that Mr. Weinstein and his board are moving toward an agreement,” she tweeted at the time.

As for her relationship with her mother — Gloria Allred, also a famed legal advocate for women —  Bloom admitted that “there’s definitely a rift,” but Allred took to Facebook on Friday to say that there’s no bad blood.

“I would like to say that my daughter Lisa Bloom is and and always has been a champion for women’s rights,” Allred posted. “Nothing that has happened in the recent past has altered my views of Lisa’s commitment to protecting and advancing women’s rights.”
