Russian TV host says Weinstein threatened her to keep quiet

Russian TV host says Weinstein threatened her to keep quiet

A high-profile Russian TV host is the latest woman to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment — saying the bathrobe-clad creep tricked her into visiting his hotel room alone, and then threatened her to stay silent.

“Don’t even think about saying anything, forget all about it, be a smart girl,” Katya Mtsitouridze said Weinstein told her, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Mtsitouridze, a film critic who hosts a show called “This Is Cinema” and heads Russia’s film promotion body, says Weinstein first tried to lure her to his hotel room after she interviewed him at the Berlin Film Festival in 2003 — inviting her there to discuss Chekov.

“I was surprised, and told him, rather ironically, that, of course, it would be an honor, but I was afraid my boyfriend would not be happy about our cultural tete-a-tete, but if he wished to invite him, there would be no problem,” she told the outlet.

“He said, ‘Don’t you understand me?’ and wrote his mobile number down, adding he was waiting for my call at any time.”

He made a similar offer to discuss Russian literature in his room at the Venice Film Festival the following year, and she suggested meeting in a public space at the hotel instead.

But when she arrived, Weinstein’s assistant said he was sick and invited Mtsitouridze up to his room — then vanished, leaving the two alone, according to the Reporter.

“I was frozen into immobility like a statue, because a well-known producer with whom I’ve come to discuss modern Russian writers, was in a bathrobe,” she said.

Weinstein said he was waiting for a masseuse, then started talking about his recent abdominal surgery, attempting to show her his considerable stomach, she says.

Still frozen, she wondered if anyone outside would hear her screams — but the awkward encounter was mercifully interrupted by a waiter, and she took the opportunity to run away.

When she saw him again a year or two later at Cannes, Weinstein acted as if nothing had happened — before whispering the threat to keep quiet, she told The Hollywood Reporter.
