Meghan Markle shows off her stunning engagement ring
Meghan Markle is sporting quite a sparkle!
Prince Harry’s newly betrothed on Monday proudly showed off her engagement ring — which he designed with two diamonds from the collection of his late mother, Princess Diana.
“The ring is yellow gold, because that’s [Meghan Markle’s] favorite, and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana, and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewelry collection to make sure that she’s with us on this — on this crazy journey together,” Harry said during an interview with the BBC.
The gold band was made by Cleave and Co., official jewelers to Queen Elizabeth II.
Botswana also has special significance for the couple, as they camped in the African country together for five days about a month after meeting in July 2016.
Markle called the ring “perfect.”
“The inclusion of that and, obviously not being able to meet his mom, it’s so important to me to — to know that she’s a part of this with us,” she said.
“It’s incredibly special to be able to have this, which sort of links where you come from and Botswana, which is important to us, and it’s perfect.”
In 2010, Harry’s brother, William, also borrowed a piece of their mother’s jewelry when he proposed — her sapphire engagement ring from Prince Charles.
A beaming Markle – wearing a white coat from Canadian designer The Line — posed for the paparazzi on the grounds of the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace shortly after the couple’s engagement was announced.
Harry, clad in a blue suit and tie, told the media that he was “thrilled” but that details about how he popped the question will be released later.
But when asked if the proposal was romantic, he replied: “Of course!”
The couple’s engagement comes in the year that marks the 20th anniversary of Princess Di’s death in 1997.
The princess of Wales was tragically killed in a Paris car crash when Harry was only 12 years old.
