Emmylou Harris surprises crowd with stories of her past
Beautiful country legend Emmylou Harris surprised the audience at Town Hall on Sunday when she recalled the winter she worked at Grand Union on Bleecker Street while singing at Gerde’s Folk City at night.
“I owned two pairs of pants and three sweaters, and I wore them all at the same time,” said Harris, who’s a “Red Dirt Girl.”
“I love Alabama, and it’ll always be my home state,” Harris declared before edging toward the Roy Moore controversy. “There’s a lot of weird stuff going on down there right now, but there are a lot of good people in Alabama, and I believe things are changing.”
Harris joined Steve Earle and the Dukes, the Mastersons, and Lucinda Williams in the show, organized by City Winery’s Michael Dorf to raise money for the Keswell School on West 25th Street for autistic kids.
