Artie Lange arrested for skipping court

Artie Lange arrested for skipping court

Comedian Artie Lange, who rose to fame on “The Howard Stern Show,” was arrested at his New Jersey home for skipping a court date in connection with a drug case.

Lange – who was picked up Tuesday night in Hoboken — had been collared by state police in Bloomfield on May 12 during a sting operation, Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura said.

He was seen driving his Range Rover erratically and at a high rate of speed on the Garden State Parkway, Fontoura said, according to NJ.com.

He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia after allegedly being found with a bag of heroin on his lap, Fontoura said.

Lange’s arrest Tuesday comes after he tweeted a disturbing picture of himself looking disheveled and possibly injured, prompting a response from police. He later apologized for the incident.

The 50-year-old funnyman’s eight-year run on the Stern show ended in 2009, and the next year, he attempted suicide, but then entered rehab and tried to rebuild his career with a memoir, an HBO appearance and a successful podcast.

But in March, he was arrested in Hoboken for possession of heroin and cocaine, authorities said. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to show up in court on those charges.

Lange attributed his absence from that court appearance to “bad communication” with his lawyer and he apologized to police.
