Timothée Chalamet to donate salary from Woody Allen movie

“Call Me By Your Name” breakout Timothée Chalamet announced today that he will donate his wages from working on Woody Allen’s upcoming “A Rainy Day in New York” to Time’s Up, the LGBT Center in New York and RAINN.

Chalamet took to Instagram to make the announcement saying, “This year has changed the way I see and feel about so many things.” He points out how the year has been an “enlightening education.”

“I am learning that a good role isn’t the only criteria for accepting a job — that has become much clearer to me in the past few months,” he adds, “having witnessed the birth of a powerful movement intent on ending injustice, inequality and above all, silence.”

He, of course, is referring to the flood of sexual misconduct allegations that have sparked a shift in the industry. It has given way to many initiatives including the aforementioned Time’s Up legal defense fund and Tarana Burke’s #MeToo movement which were formed to combat sexual harassment, abuse and assault.

Chalamet goes on to say that he has been asked about working on Allen’s film but had not been able to answer due to “contractual obligations.” Since he couldn’t talk about working on “Rainy Day” with Allen, who has been accused of sexual misconduct, he decided to take an action that spoke louder than words: “I don’t want to profit from my work on the film,” he said, “and to that end, I am going to donate my entire salary to three charities.”

He then ends his post by saying, “I want to be worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with the brave artists who are fighting for all people to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.”

His move to donate comes after his “Rainy Day” co-star Rebecca Hall decided to donate her earnings from the movie to Time’s Up. Both follow the lead of Griffin Newman, who also stars in the film. He donated his earnings from working on the film to RAINN, the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network.
