Queen gives consent for Prince Harry to marry Meghan Markle

The Queen has given her formal consent for her “beloved grandson” Prince Harry to marry Meghan Markle.

A court circular published Thursday announced Her Majesty had officially signed off on the royal wedding, taking place May 19.

I declare My Consent to a Contract of Matrimony between My Most Dearly Beloved Grandson Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales and Rachel Meghan Markle, which Consent I am causing to be signified under the Great Seal and to be entered in the Books of the Privy Council.

The royals are inviting members of the public “from every corner of the United Kingdom” to the celebration.

More than 2,600 people will be invited, with 1,200 being members of the public who will have access to the grounds of Windsor Castle on the day. The lucky 1,200 will have an amazing view as the bride and groom arrive and depart the special ceremony.

But Brits wondering how to be among the lucky few can only keep their fingers crossed — as guests will only be approached by royal officials if they are to receive an invitation.

Those members of the public will be singled out for their contribution to their communities. The royals say they are keen to invite “young people who have shown strong leadership.”

A statement from Kensington Palace earlier this month read: “Prince Harry and Ms. Markle would like their wedding day to be shaped to allow members of the public to share in the joy and the fun of the day.”

It added: “They have today given further details how public guests will be involved in the celebrations on May 19.

“Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle will invite 2,640 members of the public to Windsor Castle on their wedding day to watch the arrivals of the Bride and Groom and their guests and the carriage procession as it departs from the castle.

“The couple has asked that 1,200 people, from all corners of the UK, be selected by Lord Lieutenants, including young people who have shown strong leadership and those who have served their communities.

“Also invited into the castle grounds are 200 people from charities and organisations close to Prince Harry and Ms. Markle, including those which Prince Harry serves as Patron.

“Other guests will include 100 pupils from two local schools, 610 Windsor Castle community members and 530 Members of The Royal Household and The Crown Estate.”

Brits rejoiced when the couple announced their engagement last year.
