WABC names new boss amid turmoil

WABC has a new boss to guide it through a chaotic period.

The New York station has tapped Debra O’Connell to succeed Dave Davis as president and general manager, reports Variety.

O’Connell was called a “a well-respected, highly strategic and driven leader that brings an impressive range of experience to this position” by ABC Owned Television Stations president Wendy McMahon.

Davis retired in late February after 15 years at the helm of WABC.

The move came months after Davis and news director Camile Edwards were the subjects of a discrimination lawsuit filed by Laura Behnke, a former sports reporter at the station who claimed she was not promoted because she is a white woman.

Another employee, Matthew Lamattina, filed a discrimination suit against Edwards last October.

Earlier this month, Edwards, who had been on temporary leave, resigned from her job.

O’Connell has been with ABC for more than two decades.
