Carrie Underwood wasn’t exactly hiding after getting 40 stitches in her face — though she was fearful about one person seeing her injured mug: her 3-year-old son, Isaiah.

“He’s sweet,” Underwood, 35, told “The Bobby Bones Show” on Thursday. “For a while I was worried he would be scared of me, but now if I put makeup on, he’s like, ‘Mommy, your boo-boo’s all gone!'”

Though the “Cry Pretty” singer appeared as pretty as ever in her comeback performance at the ACM Awards last weekend, she thinks the scars surrounding her mouth will always be visible when she’s not wearing “plaster” over them. And while many believed that Underwood was deliberately flying under the radar after her fall, she denies it.

“I don’t think I hide. There’s always stuff to do, even if it’s not necessarily playing shows. I’m kind of a homebody, a hermit … I was lucky that when it happened, everything was kind of shutting down in the music world and we had the holidays and stuff like that, but I was at a point where I didn’t know how things were gonna end up,” she said. “I didn’t know what was gonna go on. I didn’t know what it was going to heal like.”

For the first time, the “American Idol” alum elaborated on the unfortunate tumble that led to her injuries, which also included a broken right wrist.

“I was taking the dogs out to go pee pee one last time, and I tripped, and there was one step,” she said. “I didn’t let go of the leashes — priorities! So that’s why the left hand is fine. I went to catch myself, and I just missed a step. If I had fallen anywhere else, I would have perfectly been fine. It was one step that messed everything up.”
