Kate Middleton and Prince William welcome third child
The newest royal has arrived.
Kate Middleton and Prince William have welcomed their third child, a boy, Kensington Palace confirmed Monday.
“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 11:01hrs,” the palace announced in an official statement. “The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
The palace also confirmed Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Prince Harry had “been informed and are delighted with the news.” Middleton, 36, and the new prince will be released from St. Mary’s Hospital on Monday evening.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge revealed in September they were expecting baby No. 3. As with her previous pregnancies, Middleton suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness, Kensington Palace confirmed.
Fifth in the line of succession, the youngest member of the royal family remains behind sister Princess Charlotte, 3, and brother Prince George, 4. Grandfather Prince Charles, 69, is first in line, followed by William, 35.
The royal baby’s arrival comes less than a month before Prince Harry weds Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle on May 19.
