Prince William and Kate Middleton announce name of third child
Prince William and Kate Middleton have named their third child Louis Arthur Charles.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles,” Kensington Palace announced Friday morning. “The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”
The latest addition to the royal family was born on the morning of Monday, April 23, and weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces.
By the afternoon, the baby boy had made his debut outside the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s hospital in London as his brother and sister had done before him. For the occasion, Middleton, 36, appeared to pay homage to the late Princess Diana in a red Jenny Packham dress reminiscent of one her late mother-in-law wore in 1983.
Name bets were placed after the baby’s birth, with Arthur, James, Albert and Phillip as the main contenders.
The littlest prince is fifth in line to the throne behind his grandfather Prince Charles, his father, Prince William, and his siblings, 4-year-old George and 2-year-old Charlotte. In 2011, the succession laws were changed so that daughters of the royal crown would have equal rights to the throne.
The baby’s arrival comes less than a month before another highly anticipated royal milestone: the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
