Meghan Markle’s wedding dress sketches revealed

On Saturday, Meghan Markle arrived at St George’s Chapel for her royal wedding with Prince Harry wearing a minimalist boatneck design by Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller.

The French fashion house shared official sketches of Markle’s gown on Monday, along with several video interviews with Waight Keller. “It was very collaborative,” the couturier said in one clip. “I think she had very much seen my work. I think she loved the fact that I was a British designer and working in a house such as Givenchy, which has its roots in a very classical, beautiful style … from the time of Hubert [de Givenchy] himself.”

“It’s a process to work on a dress such as this,” Waight Keller added. “We exchanged conversations about what would be the ultimate lines, and proportions … the scale of the dress. But over time, we quickly got to a point where … she knew exactly what she wanted.”

The second look Markle wore to her evening wedding reception was also provided by a female designer: Stella McCartney, who shared a sketch of the halter-neck dress with WWD. “I am so proud and honored to have been chosen by the Duchess of Sussex to make her evening gown and represent British design,” McCartney told the publication. “It has truly been one of the most humbling moments of my career.”
