Ariana Grande’s engagement ring designer didn’t know whom the diamond was for
Pete Davidson shelled out $93,000 for Ariana Grande‘s engagement ring — but kept the name of his soon-to-be fiancée a secret.
“Pete called me at the end of May and said, ‘Look, I’m getting a ring. This is what I want,'” NYC jeweler Greg Yuna told E! News. “And I told him that I had the right ring for him. He didn’t tell me who it was for but told me to keep it a secret. He didn’t tell me anything about it.”
Yuna spent two weeks custom-creating the pear-shaped piece — meaning that he began work on the ring at around the same time that news broke that Grande and Davidson were “casually dating.”
The pop star then debuted the diamond both backstage and during her performance at the iHeartRadio KIIS FM Wango Tango on June 2, which indicates that Davidson likely popped the question immediately after the bauble was completed (perhaps even on the same day the “SNL” star got two new Grande-inspired tattoos).
TMZ was the first to report that Davidson had commissioned Yuna to design Grande’s ring, and Yuna appeared to confirm the news on Instagram on Tuesday.
The “No Tears Left to Cry” singer’s ring weighs in at around three carats, and features a center stone surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds and set on a pavé band.
“I don’t like gaudy,” Yuna — who goes by the nickname Mr. Flawless — told the New York Post in 2015. “I don’t skimp out. I hand-pick the stones. I know what it costs to do something right.”
And clearly, Davidson was happy to fork over nearly $100,000 for the right ring.
