‘Bachelorette’ producers say contestant lied about sexual misconduct

Despite conducting a background check, producers from “The Bachelorette” say they had no idea about the assault and battery charges leveled against one of its contestants, Lincoln Adim.

“No one on ‘The Bachelorette’ production had any knowledge about the incident or charges when Lincoln Adim was cast, and he himself denied ever having engaged in or having been charged with any sexual misconduct,” Warner Bros. told Page Six in a statement.

It was revealed on Wednesday that Adim was convicted of indecent assault and battery in May resulting from a 2016 incident in Boston. Adim groped and assaulted an adult female on a harbor cruise ship early on May 30, 2016, according to a statement from the Suffolk County, Massachusetts, District Attorney’s Office.

Filming for this season of “The Bachelorette” began after the 2016 incident, but before Adim’s conviction a few weeks ago.

“We employ a well-respected and highly experienced third party who has done thousands of background checks consistent with industry standards to do a nationwide background check in this case,” Warner Bros. said. “The report we received did not reference any incident or charge relating to the recent conviction — or any other charges relating to sexual misconduct. We are currently investigating why the report did not contain this information, which we will share when we have it.”

Adim remains a contestant on the show, but ABC removed photos of him from the network’s press website after news of the conviction broke.

This season of “The Bachelorette” already has been rife with controversy, as another contestant came under fire for liking controversial Instagram posts that mocked the LGBTQ community and undocumented immigrants. He later apologized but also remains a contestant vying for Becca Kufrin’s heart.
