XXXTentacion’s death gives birth to sick new internet trend

Some fans of slain rapper XXXTentacion are mimicking his death by uploading pictures of themselves slumped in a car — and calling it the “XXXTentacion Challenge.”

The disturbing trend surfaced on social media after the 20-year-old musician, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was gunned down as he sat in the driver’s seat of his BMW in Florida on Monday.

Though it didn’t seem like that many people were actually taking up the challenge, plenty of Twitter users were up in arms about the idea.

“The fact that there’s an xxxtentacion challenge is seriously f–ked up!” tweeted @briamariexo. “What kind of people find humor in mimicking the way someone died?? These younger generations lack soo much respect & remorse it’s truly sickening.”

“This #XXXTENTACIONChallenge really don’t wan me to have kids anymore like wtf is wrong with this world?” added @coolancoda.

Others mocked the handful of people taking part.

“Patrick Star does the XXTentacion Challenge,” wrote @being_woke, along with an image of the Spongebob Squarepants character passed out on a couch.

One person who did the challenge had a snarky response to the backlash: “If anything I’m bringing attention to his death and making people more aware of the govt. cover ups,” @marrkwis wrote.
