Demi Lovato may have used meth at time of overdose
Sources close to Demi Lovato insist that she did not overdose on heroin, but did overdose on other unspecified drugs.
One of those substances may have been methamphetamine, according to The Blast.
Law enforcement sources told the site that illegal drug paraphernalia and drug remnants were found at the “Heart Attack” singer’s Hollywood Hills home when paramedics arrived on Tuesday, though it’s unclear what kinds of drugs were present at the scene as there may not have been enough left for analysis.
Insiders also claimed that a nurse told police in an incident report that Lovato, 25, used methamphetamine leading up to her overdose.
It’s unlikely that Lovato overdosed on meth, however, as Narcan, which was reportedly administered at the scene, is used for opioid overdoses, not for overdoses of stimulants.
The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed to Page Six that emergency personnel were called to Lovato’s block at 11:22 a.m. local time and transported a 25-year-old woman to a nearby hospital afterward.
TMZ reports that the incident occurred after an all-night party at Lovato’s home and that she refused to divulge what drug she’d overdosed on except to adamantly deny that it was heroin.
The former Disney star has been open about her struggles with addiction, specifically with cocaine, alcohol and OxyContin, the latter of which can lead to overdoses that can be treated with Narcan.
She revealed last month in her song “Sober” that she had relapsed after six years of sobriety, but did not go into further detail.
The singer is said to currently be in stable condition.
“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now,” the singer’s rep said in a statement Tuesday.
Lovato will likely not face charges over the incident, The Blast reported, as the incident is not being investigated as a criminal act.
A rep for Lovato did not immediately return a request for comment.
