Why Karlie Kloss and future sister-in-law Ivanka Trump’s engagement rings look so similar

When it was time to choose an engagement ring for his longtime girlfriend Karlie Kloss, it’s likely Josh Kushner went to Jared — his brother and the husband of first daughter Ivanka Trump, that is.
“I’m sure he got some recommendation from friends and family — there’s no question,” gemologist and diamond expert Grant Mobley told Page Six. “Going in to buy an engagement ring can be very intimidating, so most people will turn to those they trust for advice.”
And when you’re planning to drop hundreds of thousands of dollars on a diamond, it helps to have the right connections. “[The Kushners] have some friends in the jewelry industry because of Ivanka’s business, so I’m sure the options were wide open for them,” Mobley explained.

Perhaps as a result, the two women’s rings — both of which feature large cushion-cut center stones on pavé bands — look strikingly alike. “I think there’s an obvious comparison to be made,” Mobley said. “The sizes are very, very similar, as are the settings. That being said, every diamond is unique — no two diamonds are ever the same.”

“There’s a couple of different conclusions you could draw here,” Mobley continued. “Either Karlie absolutely loved Ivanka’s ring and knew she wanted to go down a similar route — or Josh knew she did — or it’s more of a coincidence than anything, and they both wanted something incredibly classic. It doesn’t get more timeless than a cushion cut.”

The gem expert noted that despite the two rings’ shared characteristics, there are “definitely some subtle differences” when it comes to their center stones that might be hard for the untrained eye to notice.
As for who snagged the bigger rock? “If I had to guess, it looks like Karlie’s is slightly bigger, though not by much,” Mobley said. “Maybe by a carat or less. Ivanka’s ring is about a 5.3-carat weight total — although when you include the diamonds in the band, it’s about a 6. Karlie’s might be closer to 7 carats total.”
Confirming Page Six’s earlier report, Mobley estimated that Kloss’ ring cost “somewhere in the $200,000 to $300,000 range.” He also believes that the supermodel’s sparkler, like Trump’s, was custom-made.
