Meghan Markle’s wedding dress will go on display at Windsor Castle
Even if your invitation to the royal wedding got lost in the mail, you now have the chance to see Meghan Markle‘s dress up close and personal.
Her Givenchy wedding gown and diamond bandeau tiara will be displayed alongside Prince Harry’s military uniform in a special exhibition at Windsor Castle called “A Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex”.
The exhibit will run from October 26 through January 6, and will then travel to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh from June 14 through October 6 of next year.
Designed by Clare Waight Keller, Markle’s dress is based off of an iconic wedding design created by the brand’s founder, Hubert de Givenchy, for Audrey Hepburn’s character in the film “Funny Face.”
Crafted from bright white, double-bonded silk cady, the gown features a bateau neckline and three-quarter-length sleeves. For her wedding, Markle paired it with white satin Givenchy pumps, Cartier diamond studs and bracelet and a 16-foot long silk tulle veil hand-embroidered with flowers representing the 53 countries of the Commonwealth, the latter of which will also be on display in the exhibit.
In a video released by Givenchy, Waight said of the dress’s design process, “It was very collaborative … We exchanged conversations about what would be the ultimate lines, and proportions … the scale of the dress. But over time, we quickly got to a point where … she knew exactly what she wanted.”
