Goop pays $145K settlement over vaginal eggs
Gwyneth Paltrow‘s lifestyle company Goop is paying the price for making unscientific claims about three of its products — including two of its vaginal eggs.
According to Bloomberg, Goop agreed to pay a $145,000 settlement after advertising that the Jade Egg and the Rose Quartz Egg, which are inserted into vaginas, could balance hormones, regulate menstrual cycles and increase bladder control.
The Inner Judge Flower Essence Blend, a tincture, was also listed in the lawsuit.
Goop will also refund customers who bought the vaginal products, which range in price from $55 to $66. The tincture, which Goop advertises “helps release and resolve hidden areas that are contributing to anger,” is sold for $22.
The company reportedly disagreed with the lawsuit, but wanted to settle the suit quickly.
Goop’s CFO Erica Moore told Bloomberg in a statement, “Goop provides a forum for practitioners to present their views and experiences with various products like the Jade Egg. The law, though, sometimes views statement like this as advertising claims, which are subject to various legal requirements.”
