Why Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson skipped the Emmys

Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande were reportedly slated to sit together at the 2018 Emmys, but the couple was MIA from TV’s biggest night.

“Contrary to reports, Ariana will not be attending the Emmys tonight,” a rep for the “God Is a Woman” singer told People on Monday night. “Pete has also opted to not attend to be with her in New York.”

“Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend,” her rep continued. “She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding.”

Grande, 25, has had a difficult year, with a devastating past few weeks.

Her ex-boyfriend of two years, Mac Miller, was found dead of a suspected drug overdose on Sept. 7.

Grande turned off her Instagram comments after trolls blamed her for the death of the 26-year-old rapper, from whom she split in April, despite Miller’s own close friend claiming she helped to keep him clean and sober during their relationship.

Grande paid tribute to Miller on social media, most recently with posts showing her listening to his music, as well as with a touching video last week.

Just weeks earlier, Grande was criticized for wearing a short dress to perform at Aretha Franklin’s funeral, where she appeared to have been groped by the bishop presiding over the memorial.

The singer is also still processing the trauma of the bombing at her Manchester concert in May 2017.
