Princess Eugenie’s wedding dress shows off her spinal surgery scar

Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding day has arrived, and she’s chosen a mostly traditional look with a few modern twists.

Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughter, 28, married Jack Brooksbank at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on Friday wearing an elegant long-sleeved wedding dress by British label Peter Pilotto.

Perhaps channeling Meghan Markle’s boatneck Givenchy gown from just six months ago, the bride chose a wide V neckline with a draped collar and low back, which Eugenie specifically requested to show off her scar from the spinal surgery she had at age 12 to correct her scoliosis.

The jacquard gown also features a large bow and elegant train. The fabric itself includes several meaningful motifs, including a Scottish thistle as a nod to Balmoral, an Irish shamrock (for Eugenie’s maternal family), the York rose (for England) and ivy to represent the bride and groom’s home.

Eugenie bucked tradition by forgoing a veil to better show off the Queen’s Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara. She also wore matching emerald drop earrings — a wedding gift from Brooksbank that also happened to match her mother Sarah, Duchess of York’s bright green outfit for the big day.

In yet another page taken from Markle’s style playbook, Eugenie wore her hair in a low bun with curled tendrils and natural makeup with rosy cheeks.

The new trend for royal weddings, it seems, is understated beauty.
