Drake opens up about ‘beautiful’ son for the first time
Fatherhood has changed Drake for the better.
“I have a son, he’s a beautiful boy,” the rapper said on Friday’s episode of HBO’s “The Shop,” with LeBron James.
“He’s already in the pool shooting the basketball,” Drake added, also gushing about his son’s “crazy blue eyes.”
In June, Drake, 31, confirmed on his new album “Scorpion” that he had fathered son Adonis with former adult film star Sophie Brussaux. His admission followed rapper Pusha T’s diss track, “The Story of Adidon,” which referenced Drake’s possible paternity.
Brussaux claimed she was pregnant with Drake’s child in May 2017, which his reps denied at the time. After Brussaux welcomed the baby in the fall of 2017, TMZ reported in May Drake had been “cutting checks” to support her.
“I’m just excited,” Drake said, according to People. “All of the things I’ve learned from and through my father and the incredible things I’ve learned through my mother about patience, about unconditional love.”
Drake rapped about paternity on “Scorpion’s” final track, “March 14.”
“I had to come to terms with the fact that it’s not a maybe … She’s not my lover like Billie Jean/But the kid is mine/Sadie used to tell me all it takes is one time/And all it took was one time/S–t, we only met two times, two times … I’m out here on front lines/Just tryna make sure that I see him sometimes,” he expressed.
The former “Degrassi: The Next Generation” actor also spoke about the bond between his son and the mother of his child.
“I am a single father learning to communicate with a woman who, you know, we’ve had our moments,” Drake said. “I do want to be able to explain to my son what happened. But I don’t have any desire for him to like, not love his mother, or I don’t ever want the world to be angry at his mother. We have found ourselves in a situation, and we are both equally responsible.”
Drake also discussed his childhood, which included his parents’ divorce when he was just 5 years old.
“I was really hard on my parents for giving me sort of a childhood that I had to wrap my mind around as I grew,” he explained. “Multiple times I sort of suggested that they could have done a better job at co-parenting, sticking together, not being so divided.”
Raised by his mom, Drake said he was anxious to tell her about the situation with Brussaux, noting life doesn’t always go as planned.
“I think I was more scared to tell my mom because my mom has had real relationships with women in my life over the course of my years that I’m sure she would expect or be elated if I were to have gotten one of those women pregnant. It was tough for me to tell her that it was somebody that she never met,” he revealed.
