Mac Miller’s death was final straw for Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson
Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande‘s whirlwind engagement couldn’t survive the death of her ex Mac Miller.
Insiders told TMZ that Grande, 25, was in a “dark place” following Miller’s death of an apparent drug overdose in September and that his passing made her realize she was moving far too fast in her relationship with the “Saturday Night Live” star.
The pair’s split was first reported Sunday.
Sources told The Sun that Grande dumped Davidson, 24, because she felt he wasn’t there for her enough after Miller passed, leading to arguments that ultimately ended their relationship.
“Ariana has been devastated and Pete couldn’t handle it,” insiders claimed. “She realized she needs a grown-up who can support her and that’s not him. They secretly split a week ago and she’s already moved out of the apartment.”
Sources also claimed that Grande visited Davidson at “SNL” on Saturday in an effort to keep the broken engagement quiet, but that they’d split a week prior.
One aspect of Miller’s untimely death that didn’t contribute to Grande and Davidson’s split, insiders say, was guilt.
Sources told TMZ that Grande felt she did everything she could to help Miller get clean before their breakup in April.
Miller’s own friends previously confirmed that Grande did all that she could to help keep the rapper clean.
“There could not have been anybody more supportive of him being sober than Ariana. I saw that. I was around it,” Miller’s pal Shane Powers said on his podcast last month. “She was an unbelievably stabilizing force in his life, and she was deeply helpful and effective in keeping Mac sober and helping him get sober, and she was all about him being healthy, period, in this area of his life.”
