Meghan Markle’s mom Doria Ragland reacts to royal baby news
Doria Ragland is ready for her new title: Grandma.
As Kensington Palace told ET in a statement, Meghan Markle‘s mother is “very happy about this lovely news, and she looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild.”
On Monday, it was revealed that Meghan, 37, and Prince Harry, 34, are expecting their first child together in the spring of 2019. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently in Australia as part of their 16-day tour, which also includes visits to Fiji, New Zealand and Tonga.
“Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public,” the Palace said in a statement Monday.
As for a response from Meghan’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, the Palace declined to comment to ET when asked if he had received the news or had a statement.
Markle’s relationship with his daughter has continued to crumble after the former Hollywood lighting director was caught staging photo-ops ahead of the royal nuptials in May. Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha Markle, later revealed she was the mastermind.
The future royal will be seventh in line to the throne, behind Prince Harry, who is currently sixth. Prince Charles is first, after Queen Elizabeth, followed by Prince William and his three children with wife Kate Middleton: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed in April.
