Pete Davidson breaks silence after Ariana Grande split
Pete Davidson joked about his breakup with Ariana Grande on Saturday, while co-hosting the “Judd & Pete for America” benefit with Judd Apatow, at Largo at the Coronet in West Hollywood, Calif.
“Well, as you could tell, I don’t want to be here. There’s a lot going on,” the “Saturday Night Live” comedian said, according to E! News. “Does anybody have any open rooms? Looking for a roommate?”
Davidson, 24, and Grande, 25, pulled the plug on their whirlwind romance earlier this month, after getting engaged in June. The former pair played house in a $16 million New York apartment, which the “God Is a Woman” singer reportedly purchased. The doomed duo also professed their love for one another with tattoos.
“Um, I’ve been covering a bunch of tattoos, that’s fun,” Davidson joked. “I’m f–king zero for two in the tattoo [department]. Yeah, I’m afraid to get my mom tattooed on me, that’s how bad it is.”
Days before reports of the split surfaced, it appeared Davidson had covered up a Grande-inspired tattoo. A source later told Page Six that the comic had the ink transformed to match a tattoo on the pop star’s body.
Apatow is said to have thanked Davidson for participating Saturday night.
“Well, you put me on the flyer, I had to,” he said.
Davidson recently canceled a gig at Temple University, citing “personal reasons.”
As for what Davidson’s future may hold, he still has hope for his relationship with Grande.
“I talked to Pete a few days ago and he was joking again,” said a friend of Davidson. “He’s still in love with Ariana and sees a future with her.”
Grande is coming off a difficult year, which also included the death of ex-boyfriend Mac Miller. The rapper died in September of an apparent overdose at the age of 26.
