Kate Middleton has excellent taste in tiaras.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 36, attended a state banquet at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday night wearing a blue Alexander McQueen gown accessorized with a very special headpiece: the Lover’s Knot tiara.

The piece, which features teardrop-shaped pearls, was a favorite of Princess Diana‘s, and the late royal borrowed it from Queen Elizabeth II on several special occasions. Prince William’s mother last donned the tiara in 1991, but it wasn’t worn again until Middleton chose it for the Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace in 2015.

And it seems the duchess loves the precious piece just as much as Diana did: This marks the fourth time the royal mother of three has stepped out in the Lover’s Knot tiara.

Middleton paired the glittering accessory with Princess Diana’s beloved Collingwood Pearl Earrings, which Prince Charles gave to her as a wedding gift, and finished the sentimental look with a matching diamond-and-pearl necklace that once belonged to Queen Alexandra.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister-in-law Meghan Markle attended her first state dinner in Fiji similarly dressed in blue. But while the occasion marked the first time the Duchess of Sussex was eligible to wear a tiara (a right that is reserved for married royals attending a state banquet), she chose to skip the crown.
