Ellen Pompeo calls out Kathie Lee Gifford’s drinking before ‘Today’ exit announcement

No wine for Dr. Meredith Grey.

Ellen Pompeo called out Kathie Lee Gifford for her and Hoda Kotb‘s penchant for drinking wine during their “Today” show hour after seeing a tweet from their official Twitter account that shared Pompeo’s appearance on Jada Pinkett Smith’s “Red Table Talk.”

The tweet from the “Today” show co-anchors’ account read, “.@EllenPompeo and @PatrickDempsey haven’t spoken since he left ‘Grey’s Anatomy’,” and included a link to the story. Pompeo wasn’t thrilled with the angle Kotb and Gifford — or really, the social media manager — took to promote the story.

“Hey here’s a suggestion!! Maybe all of you over there lay off the booze and pay attention to the real conversation that took place ? 🍷🍷🍷😜😜😜” the “Grey’s Anatomy” star fired back.

The Twitter altercation took place only hours before Gifford announced she’s leaving the morning show after 11 years. Page Six learned soon after that Jenna Bush Hager is likely to fill her seat.

While Pompeo’s “Red Table Talk” discussion did include bits about former co-star Dempsey, the majority of the conversation centered around raising her three biracial children with husband Chris Ivery. The “Today” show’s story didn’t include any of that information.

In a follow-up tweet, Pompeo added: “@klgandhoda and whoever is in charge of this account.. the two women you work for deserve to be represented a bit more dignified.”
