Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are reportedly expecting their fourth child, a boy, via surrogate. It’ll be the second baby born via surrogate for the couple, who previously used one to welcome their daughter Chicago West, 11 months.

The couple used La’Reina Haynes as their gestational carrier, and Kim introduced her to the family on an episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” Though Kim was first nervous about using a gestational carrier, she eventually warmed up to the idea after realizing that her placenta accreta — a condition in which the placenta remains attached to the uterine wall when it normally would detach — wouldn’t allow her to give birth again.

“I didn’t really know what to expect because I don’t really know anyone that’s gone through this,” Kim said in a confessional during the episode. “It was definitely not as easy as I thought it would be emotionally, but it’s so worth it.”

She sang Haynes’ praises, calling her “such a nice person” and declaring, “I’m just so grateful.”

While Haynes was pregnant, Kim told “Entertainment Tonight” that the hardest part of surrogacy was losing control.

“You know, it is really different. Anyone that says or thinks it is just the easy way out is just completely wrong,” she shared. “I think it is so much harder to go through it this way, because you are not really in control.”

She also said having carried daughter North West and son Saint West made the decision to go with surrogacy harder.

“Obviously you pick someone that you completely trust and that you have a good bond and relationship with, but it is still … knowing that I was able to carry my first two babies and not, you know, my baby now, it’s hard for me,” she admitted.

Even though Kim has been candid in the past about how miserable she felt during her first two pregnancies, the E! reality star admitted that having the ability to carry was a far greater feeling than being high-risk.

“I hated being pregnant and I never thought I’d ever … I thought this was going to be so easy, but you know, even in how much I hated it, if I could do it myself, I would have preferred that,” Kim said. “So, that inner struggle is kind of hard, but I am just rolling with it and it is what it is.”

Many other celebrities have turned to surrogacy to help expand their families, most recently Andy Cohen, who announced he’s expecting a boy. Other celebrities who’ve used surrogates include Giuliana Rancic, Tyra Banks, Jimmy Fallon, Ellen Pompeo, Amy Smart, Nicole Kidman, Elizabeth Banks, Lucy Liu, Sarah Jessica Parker, Nate Berkus, Neil Patrick Harris and Jordana Brewster.

As Page Six previously reported, first-time surrogates can cost prospective parents anywhere from $30,000 to $35,000, but a surrogate can be paid more depending on the type of contact. Repeat surrogates can be paid up to $50,000 in some states.
