Meghan and Kate receive tons of hateful comments on social media
Kensington Palace staff are spending hours each week tackling abuse and racism toward Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.
Some people have even made “violent threats” against the two duchesses, according to Hello magazine.
A source revealed that the palace monitors comments on social media and “block certain words,” but some of the abuse has become “quite serious.”
They said: “Over the course of last year, with hundreds of thousands of comments, there were two or three that were violent threats.
“It follows a Kate vs. Meghan narrative and some of the worst stuff is between Kate fans and Meghan fans.
“Arguments about who looks more appropriate, for example, that turn into personal attacks on other users. It’s creating a supercharged atmosphere and everyone can join in, but what are the consequences of this?”
Neither of the duchesses has her own Instagram account, with Meghan closing her personal one a year ago before her marriage to Prince Harry, but abuse is directed on Kensington Palace’s page.
After just five minutes of scanning, vile comments such as Megan is a “tramp,” “manipulative” and “a narcissist” can be seen, while Kate gets slammed for being “anorexic” and “boring.”
The source added: “You can delete and report and block people and the police have options around particular people. It’s something you have to manage because there’s no other way to control it.”
And the hateful comments are not just directed toward the two duchesses.
People have also been cruelly attacking other Instagram users, with one poster telling another to “drink bleach,” over their opposing views.
The palace is said to have turned to Instagram in a bid to learn how they can best tackle abusive comments.
Instagram’s policy states: “We want to foster a positive, diverse community. We remove content that contains credible threats or hate speech, content that targets private individuals to degrade or shame them, personal information meant to blackmail or harass someone, and repeated unwanted messages.
“It’s never OK to encourage violence or attack anyone based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, disabilities, or diseases.”
The Sun recently reported how cruel haters have been, taking to social media making bizarre claims that Meghan is faking her pregnancy and wearing a false bump.
Some have even posted on Twitter with the hashtag #Megxit to share their views.
One person wrote: “Well, I have 2 college degrees and 1 master degree. I also speak 3 languages. I’m definitely ‘educated’ and I still think everything about Meghan is fake, including her pregnancy.”
