Meghan Markle may live in England, but she hasn’t forgotten her Canadian past.

The Duchess of Sussex, 38, celebrated Commonwealth Day on Monday with Prince Harry at Canada House in London. The mom-to-be wore a custom green Erdem coat and dress, embellished with hand-beaded black roses in honor of the Commonwealth of Nations, which includes the North American country.

Not only was the jewel-toned outfit eye-catching, it also paid homage to Markle’s former home and included some personal details. Fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu was born in Canada to a Turkish father and an English mother and grew up in both Montreal and England, which is probably why the Duchess feels a kinship with the brand. She filmed “Suits” in Toronto for six years from 2011 to 2017, when she became engaged to the prince and moved across the pond.

The custom-made wool outfit also included a nod to Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland. The embellishments are named “Doria Beaded Rose” embroidery and were inspired by a similar print from the most recent runway collection, according to Erdem.

The Duchess has a history of subtly referencing the places she’s visiting or events she’s supporting with her clothing. While in Fiji in October, Markle wore a bright blue gown that perfectly matched the island nation’s flag and she often reps both Canadian and English designers wherever she goes.

Markle paired the stunning look with her signature accessories — black Aquazurra pumps ($750) and a Givenchy clutch — and a low messy bun, per usual.
