Tom Cruise’s daughter opens up about her role in the Church of Scientology

Tom Cruise’s daughter Isabella is proud to be following in his footsteps.

In a recent email newsletter for Scientology London, Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s eldest adopted child shared a gushing testimony about her “auditing adventure” for the controversial church.

First published on journalist Tony Ortega’s blog, The Underground Bunker, the promotional message describes the 26-year-old’s experiences becoming an auditor — a member of the church who helps potential and current members “rid” themselves “of spiritual disability” and increase their own abilities — and urging others to do the same.

“I became that annoying girl in the org who would just talk endlessly about how incredible training is and how phenomenal the internship is,” she wrote. “I’m sure a few people couldn’t deal just like I couldn’t. But I won’t stop with that because now I KNOW.”

She also explains that training to be an auditor – which she refers to as an “internship” – is what made her a Scientologist.

“We all need to do this,” she wrote. “It’s hard work. It’s a lot of effort. … This is a gift to yourself and so many others. It doesn’t matter if you aren’t going to be an auditor or aren’t going to join staff. If you are going to make it as a being for the long run you NEED this. That’s the truth. You won’t stay Clear or [the spiritual state of being Operating Thetan] without it.”

Near the end of her testimonial, she thanks her father “for everything,” along with “COB” – Scientology “Chairman of the Board” David Miscavige — and “LRH” — Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.

In an interview with the Daily Beast, Ortega stressed how unexpected the newsletter was, saying that in addition to Isabella and her brother Connor keeping relatively quiet about their relationship with the church, few celebrities want to be attached to something like auditing.

“So the fact that Isabella is being used to promote training as an auditor is really interesting to me,” he said. “A lot of celebrities don’t want the church to use them in this way. So she’s making a conscious decision, that she’s okay with people knowing that she’s really down with this stuff.”

While both Isabella and Connor live more private lives than their parents, their mother, who was married to Tom from 1990-2001, talked about their relationship in an interview with Who magazine last year.

“They are adults,” she told the publication. “They are able to make their own decisions. They have made choices to be Scientologists and as a mother, it’s my job to love them.”

The Church of Scientology did not respond to a request for comment.
