Kevin Federline’s rep responds to charges dropped against Britney Spears’ father

Kevin Federline’s rep responds to charges dropped against Britney Spears’ father

Britney Spears’ father has been cleared of child abuse allegations against her son, but Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline is not mad about it because a restraining order remains in place.

“It was not Kevin’s desire to see [Britney’s father] Jamie Spears be prosecuted,” Federline’s rep, Los Angeles family law attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan, exclusively told Page Six on Wednesday. “The police report that he initiated was only for the purpose of obtaining protection orders for the children and those remain in place.”
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office sent out a news release Tuesday stating that all criminal charges filed against Jamie have been declined.
“After reviewing the evidence, there is insufficient proof that a criminal offense was committed by Mr. Spears,” the statement said.
In late August, Federline filed a police report accusing Jamie, 67, of abusing his 14-year-old son with Britney, Sean Preston Federline.
“There was a disagreement that occurred while Britney and the children were visiting with Jamie at his home that led to a physical altercation that was observed by [their other son] Jayden,” Kaplan previously told People. “Britney did the right thing and removed the children and took them out of there, but the trauma to the kids is nonetheless.”

The incident was enough for police to grant protective orders for Sean Preston and 13-year-old brother Jayden James.
While the investigation continued, Jamie requested that he be temporarily relieved of his conservatorship duties over Britney, overseeing her financial and personal affairs, to focus on his own health. A judge ruled care manager Jodi Montgomery will take over until January 2020.
A rep for Britney could not immediately be reached for comment.
