Michael Cohen living ‘like a celebrity’ in jail

Former Donald Trump lawyer Michael Cohen is living “like a celebrity” in prison, is the “mayor” of his jail and has a job repairing fire hydrants. The ex-presidential fixer began a three-year sentence at the federal prison in Otisville, NY, in May. He pleaded guilty to tax evasion and campaign finance violations tied to hush money he paid to two women — in Cohen’s words — “to cover up Trump’s dirty deeds.”
But Cohen, 53, isn’t exactly doing hard time. “People wish Michael Cohen is getting beaten up every day in prison — but he’s literally the mayor of the prison. He’s doing great: The other inmates call him ‘Mr Mayor,’” his attorney David Schwartz told Page Six after visiting Cohen. “He’s a celebrity in the jail. Everybody is coming up and shaking his hand. He’s enjoying hanging out with the other inmates.”
Otisville, which has been dubbed one of America’s cushiest prisons, is a satellite camp with 120 inmates who live in dormitories with personal cubicles. It boasts a gym and tennis and basketball courts. Schwartz added, “Michael has a job fixing fire hydrants. He really enjoys his work. He looks great — he is tan, works out every day and has lost more than 30 pounds. He sleeps in a cubicle with a bed, night table and a desk … He is basically very unstressed. The only downside is he misses his family.”
Cohen even gets to read Page Six inside, but we seem to have disrupted his bliss in the slammer with a story stating Omarosa Manigault Newman was his “new self-help guru.” So Cohen wrote us a terse note saying, “Omarosa is not my spiritual advisor (I’m Jewish). She is not my emotional advisor (She is a friend). She did not come to Otisville … as she has not yet been approved for visitation.” While Schwartz said the two may have exchanged letters, Cohen added he felt the story was “designed to malign me” without explaining how or why. Thanks for the message Michael … now get back to the johnny pumps.
